The Recreation Department actively services the entire community through it's various recreation and sports activities, & sports facilities, overseeing Martin Recreation Center, Cardines Baseball Field, Freebody Park sports complex, and an outdoor skatepark.

The Recreation Department is dedicated to providing support for community-wide special events.

Seasonal activities, leagues, and special events for adults, youth, and families are a big part of the department, and information is available on the website and on flyers available at the office at 35 Golden Hill Street, or call us at 401-845-5800.

The Newport Recreation Department has a variety of programming for all ages. Information may be found on the Recreation Activities page along with registration information.

Programs fill fast with priority for Newport residents.

Special events include Santa’s Workshop and February Vacation Camp as well as 2 youth basketball tournaments, Carmella’s’ Thanksgiving tournament and the Newport Daily News holiday tournament. Contact the department for more information.

And save the date of Sunday October 26 for “Creepy Carousel” from 1:00-4:00 PM at Easton’s’ Beach sponsored by Saccucci Mercury, Lincoln, Honda Inc.

The department is always looking to expand recreational opportunities and welcome input from residents, who are interested in adding programs, sponsoring special events or leagues, or volunteering.

Also a tremendous need for scholarship support is needed so all Newport youth can participate regardless of ability to pay. A special fund has been set up to support this effort.

We welcome your ideas and support to increase our outreach into the community.
